Can you bring protein powder and creatine into Thailand?
By the UnReal Supplements team. Sources and catalog last checked: 2026-10-05.
Short answer
For personal use, the Thai FDA caps whey protein at 2.5 kg, and food supplements at 15 items with up to 3 months of use each, inside a 10 kg total for all foods. One 5 lb tub (2.27 kg) fits under the whey cap, two do not. Rules change, so check the FDA page before you fly.
What does the Thai FDA allow in your luggage?
The Thai FDA's guideline of importation for personal use says health products, foods included, can be brought into Thailand for personal use only, and must be imported by the individual traveller. We read the page on 2026-10-05. It shows no publication date, and rules can change, so treat this as what the page said on that day and open the link before you travel.
- Foods for personal consumption must not exceed 10 kg or litres in total across all items, and the same items must not have been imported in the previous 3 months.
- Whey proteins sit in the milk and dairy group, with a limit of 2.5 kg or litres.
- Food supplements: in total not more than 15 pieces, each item with a quantity equivalent to 3 months of consumption by product.
- The page adds that a product must be classified as food under Thai law, and that foods based on cannabis or hemp are not allowed.
How does that work for a tub of whey?
The whey line is a weight, so it is simple arithmetic. A 5 lb tub is about 2.27 kg and passes. Two 5 lb tubs are about 4.54 kg and do not. Pack labels vary by a few grams, so a combination near the line is a judgment call you would be making at the border.
| What you carry | Weight in kg | Under 2.5 kg? |
|---|---|---|
| One 1 lb tub | 0.45 | Yes |
| One 2 lb tub | 0.91 | Yes |
| Two 2 lb tubs | 1.81 | Yes |
| One 5 lb tub | 2.27 | Yes |
| Three 2 lb tubs | 2.72 | No |
| One 5 lb tub and one 1 lb tub | 2.72 | No |
| Two 5 lb tubs | 4.54 | No |
- The page lists whey proteins in the dairy group. A product sold as something else, such as a blend or a supplement, may be classed differently, and we cannot tell you how an officer would class your tub.
What about creatine?
The page does not name creatine. Creatine tubs are normally labelled as dietary supplements, which would put them under the food supplement line: up to 15 pieces in total, each with a quantity equivalent to 3 months of consumption. Whether a given product counts as a food supplement is for the FDA and the officer at the border, not for us.
As arithmetic only, not FDA text: at a 5 g daily dose, 3 months is about 450 g (90 days times 5 g). A 300 g tub is under that and a 1 kg tub is over it. A product with a different label dose changes the number.
Is creatine legal in Thailand?
We are a shop, not a law firm, so we only quote what the Thai FDA publishes. Its personal import page treats supplements under the food rules above and does not single out creatine. We sell creatine in our Bangkok shop and deliver it free within Bangkok when it is on the shelf. For a legal opinion about your own situation, ask the FDA or a lawyer.
Why many visitors buy it here instead of carrying it
A half used tub can leak in a bag, and a month of powder is heavy. Buying in person at the shop lets you check the seal and batch code before you pay. We deliver free within Bangkok, and the band at the top of this page shows the order cutoff for same day delivery. Only what is on the shelf is for sale, so check the category page for today's stock.
If you are staying a while, UnReal Gym, in the same building, sells day passes, so you can train and restock in one place.
Frequently asked
- How much protein powder can I bring into Thailand?
- The Thai FDA personal import page lists whey proteins at up to 2.5 kg or litres, within a 10 kg or litre total for all foods. That is one 5 lb tub (about 2.27 kg), not two. We read the page on 2026-10-05, so open it before you travel.
- Can I bring creatine on a plane into Thailand?
- The Thai FDA page does not name creatine. Creatine is normally sold as a dietary supplement, and the food supplement line allows up to 15 pieces in total, each equal to 3 months of consumption. How a particular product is classed is the FDA's call.
- How many supplements can I bring into Thailand?
- The Thai FDA page says food supplements in total must not exceed 15 pieces, with each item a quantity equivalent to 3 months of consumption by product.
- Do I need to declare protein powder?
- The page we read sets quantity limits and does not describe a declaration step, so we cannot answer that from the source. The FDA's own page is the place to check, and an officer at the border has the final say.
- Is it easier to buy protein in Bangkok than to bring it?
- Often, for a short stay. A tub is heavy, can leak, and the whey limit is 2.5 kg. We deliver free within Bangkok, and you can collect at UnReal Gym on Sukhumvit Soi 24. Only what is on the shelf is for sale.
